First came Collectable Card Games, then Living Card Games. Now Fiscally Flush Games have announced Ongoing Extortion, a Collectable Collectable-Living Card Games Game.
“This is a groundbreaking piece of game design,” FFG’s media manager Rob Patrons said, “We have literally invented a new thing.”
In Ongoing Extortion 2-4 players compete to eliminate their opponents by using pre-constructed decks of cards. The twist? Those decks of cards can be from one of 13 different collectable-living card games that make up the whole of Ongoing Extortion. Your opponent’s deck may be constructed from cards within the same game as yours, or from a completely different game with a different set of rules. It sounds confusing but reports are coming out that somehow it all works.
“Seriously, this takes asymmetric gaming to a whole new level,” enthused Sai Cofant, on the vlog U Need 2 Win, “I can’t think of anything wrong with Ongoing Extortion, and I’m not just saying that to keep FFG sweet.”
Fiscally Flush Games say that the Collectable Collectable-Living Card Games Game system is a revolutionary amalgamation and update of the earlier CCG and LCG production models. The monthly ‘Expandates’ will add specific new cards for each of the 13 different games contained within Ongoing Extortion, whilst booster packs will be available at all times and will contain a random selection of 15 cards from across the full roster of games.
“Each game within Ongoing Extortion is entirely playable on its own, has its own rules, strategies and factions,” said Rip Ovfe, FFG’s development manager, “But the games all work when played against each other too. Dick Snoopy [the game’s designer] is a genius!”
Whilst details of the specific design are scarce at this point, Perfect Information Press are led to believe that Ongoing Extortion includes a total of 71 distinct factions across the 13 games, including the fearsome Steel Dollas and the corporate collective Bank Raptors.
“Obviously it’ll take time and money to build a decent collection that gives you a full choice of different games and factions but we believe that the fans would be disappointed if there wasn’t the depth that 13 complete card games bring.” said Bledu Drai, FFG’s director of finance.
Starter packs will provide introductory cards for each of the factions within two of Ongoing Extortion’s games, with starter cards from the thirteenth game distributed across the other six starter packs. And Fiscally Flush Games aren’t afraid of adult themes either, the ‘Boats & Beer’ starter set includes the Viking-themed ‘Odin’s Staff’ and a monastic game of forbidden passion called ‘Monk & Mindy’. Other games are said to feature stock market manipulation, zombies and post-apocalyptic locomotives. To get the full experience of Ongoing Extortion you’ll need at least one deck from each of the 13 games.
“There is such scope and vision with Ongoing Extortion!” said Coin Scare, FFG’s lead artist, “At launch there will be around 3,000 different cards available, with more released in the first wave of Expandates.”
One card we’ve seen, from a game that appears to be based around medieval agriculture, is called ‘Uwe’s Bane’ and allows players to torch their opponent’s crops. In a Perfect Information Press exclusive, we can reveal that the counter card from the same game – ‘Rosen Rebirth’ – can be played to convert the burnt ashes into fertiliser, whilst ‘Global Hub-Set’ from the post-apocalyptic locomotive game will convert burnt or irradiated land into a train hub, simultaneously increasing your income and devaluing your opponent’s land.
Buzz for the new game model is building with industry insiders. “Playing Ongoing Extortion is just insane!” said Joan from Joan Likes Getting Games, “It’s, like, the most meta experience I’ve ever had. Even talking about it now feels meta. It blows my mind, like, am I even real?”
Yes Joan, you are real. Just like Fiscally Flush Games’ latest creation – the Collectable Collectable-Living Card Games Game. What will those clever game boffins think of next?

none of that sounds interesting to a 36 year old male ccg vet born on Thanksgiving day even. Creatures and spells! Not beer and locomotives. Just seems too light hearted to be a ccg. This is not Sparta…
Howdy William, please note the satire tag for this article. 😀
Never have I been more disappointed by the #satire tag. This (these?) may not be the game(s) we want, but it’s the CC-LCGG that we deserve.
