Thuan Tran was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and grew up in Falls Church, VA. He is an Associate Attorney at Dunlap, Bennett & Ludwig where he does work in litigation and intellectual property. He attended the University of Virginia, where he graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science & Government. Following this, he worked on antitrust matters as a Paralegal Specialist at the Department of Justice, Antitrust Section in the Healthcare & Consumer Products Section. Most notably, he worked on the AnthemCigna matter as it proceeded through trial and later on the AT&T-TimeWarner matter. Later, he attended law school at the Washington & Lee University School of Law, where he also worked as an intern for the Federal Trade Commission, Bureau of Competition in the Technology Enforcement Division, helping to research antitrust issues for the Facebook investigation.
During his time in law school, Thuan was very involved in student organizations. He served on the Moot Court Executive Board as a Mock Trial Chair and the Asian & Pacific American Law Student Association as Vice President. His passion for fitness and weight training also led to his co-founding and holding a position as President of the Washington & Lee Strength Club, where he helped fellow law students and undergraduates learn how to properly weight-train and integrate it into a healthy lifestyle. Thuan is also extremely passionate about board games. This passion led to his co-authoring an article with Professor Christopher B. Seaman regarding the role of intellectual property law in stimulating innovation in the tabletop gaming industry. He has done various talks about this paper, including Iowa Law's Innovation, Business & Law Center Distinguished Speaker Series in Summer 2021. The article is set to published in May 2022 in Iowa Law Review Vol. 107.
