A victim of my father's cavalier attitude towards board gaming, I cultivated my love of the hobby through the lens of licensed titles and CCGs, like Decipher's Star Wars and various Munchkin editions. Then Descent came along, greasing my dungeon crawler skids and paving the way to D&D and other RPG sessions. I made through the throw of a dice or a sneaky backstab, whether with a literal knife or a sly Catan trade to score the winning points. Adventure became my stock and trade, flowing from the tabletop to the written page and back, and that's never really stopped.
My collection these days is a broad spectrum with a heavy bent towards interactive titles. I try to avoid games where you can math your way to victory, preferring either chance or enough interactivity to keep things engaging. Euros like Barrage and Argent: The Consortium are perennial favorites for evening one-shots, though more of my tabletop time these days is spent digging into ridiculous campaigns, either cooperative adventures like Kingdom Death: Monster or head-to-head tangos like Undaunted: Stalingrad. I enjoy well-crafted miniatures, though my miniature painting game is a work in progress, and production quality, as a premium experience on the table is a delight.
Beyond boardgaming, writing and being a dad tend to dominate my time. Running a publishing business ain't for the faint of heart, but hearing from readers who fall in love with my characters (just like I did while writing them) is among the most amazing things. As is getting walloped by a spoonful of yogurt from a vengeful toddler. It's a wonderful life all around, and I can't wait to see what rolls in next (it'll probably be another absurd Kickstarter).
