1-6 players, ages 14+, 120-180 minutes

Malediction

“3D-Printable Miniatures Card Game” may sound like a Mad Libs-style word salad, but it’s actually revolutionary. Malediction is the newest release from Loot Studios, bringing tabletop wargaming to your home for a fraction of the price. Each of the four starter boxes contains both the cards you need and standees to substitute for miniatures. A QR code will get you 3D printable files to print the miniatures yourself if you’re so inclined, but the game runs perfectly without plastic.

2-4 players, ages 14+, 45-90 minutes

Speakeasy

Speakeasy transports you to the roaring 1920s during the era of Prohibition. Manhattan was under the firm control of Lucky Luciano, a prominent mobster. To strengthen his grip on the territory, he implemented a well-structured system. He divided Manhattan into different districts, each assigned to a specific mobster responsible for handling their “business” operations. Speakeasy is a heavy strategy worker placement game that puts you in control of a crime family.

1-4 players, ages 14+, 50-180 minutes

Two Player & Solo Games

Sometimes you just want to play head to head, skill against skill, and see who comes out on top. Or sometimes you just want to spend quality time with that special someone in your life. In any case the games on this list are custom made for two. Just add a table, and let the gaming commence.

Zenith

In the far-off future, the solar system is inhabited by 3 races: Humans, Robots, and Animods.

Azul Duel

Decorate the magnificent ceilings of the palace. Will the vaults look more beautiful by day or by night? Azul Duel invites you to play with light and pit opposites against each other. 2 players, ages 10+, 30-45 minutes

Floristry

Floristry is a 2 player, tile-laying game in which players compete at the historic Aalsmeer Dutch Auction to win the best flowers and then use them to create the most charming window display. The game features a unique web app which runs a Dutch auction each round. So you have to think fast, bid carefully, and pay close attention to get what you want at the right price– but also keep an eye on what your rival needs. Players simultaneously place their new flowers into their storefront frame to earn Charm. At the end of the game, whoever has the most Charm wins.T

2 players, ages 8+, 15-20 minutes

High Tide

High Tide is a beautiful game to look at, with its pastel wooden hexagons and screenprinted illustrations of ocean life, to say nothing of the box design. More remarkable still, it’s an even better game than it is an aesthetic object. Games of High Tide are short, lasting less than the 15 minutes advertised on the box, but they are full of rich decisions. Like all the best abstract games, you are constantly put in a position of evaluating tradeoffs, of surrendering a position here to develop elsewhere. The rules are light, the pieces are beautiful, and the game is one of this year’s best.

2 players, ages 8+, 5-15 minutes

Toy Battle

The soldiers may be small, but the stakes are huge in Toy Battle, the Stratego-like game that pits two players against each other in a game of attacks and counter-attacks to control the gameboard. You’ll have to outwit, outthink, and outlast your opponent as you activate the abilities of various toys. Surround areas to earn victory stars or go all-in on an attempt to capture the enemy HQ. Rounds are quick enough to pick up and play multiple times in the row to see who is better at commanding the forces of joy and plastic.

2 players, ages 8+, 15 minutes
